A letter to the editor from Dean Richter in Ben Lomond

EDITOR,

I think a Target development in Scotts Valley is an excellent idea for all the reasons proposed. It’s just at the wrong place. If the city leaders weren’t so myopic in what they want for the Town Center, they would be bending over backward to lure them to that project. A commitment by Target might be just the thing to get the ball rolling for that dusty idea.
I suppose some traffic improvements could be made to the Mt. Hermon-La Madrona intersection that would lessen the impact of 9,000 additional car trips per day. The nightmare traffic problem that isn’t being addressed is the 30 percent of those trips that begin south of the Mt. Hermon-Highway 17 interchange. How many locals taking those 3,000 car trips a day would avoid the mess at Mt. Hermon-La Madrona and take the obvious shortcut up and down La Madrona from Sims and beyond? (That is the meandering country road that the proponents are ignoring.)

Maybe Target would be willing to widen that road to accommodate the increased traffic, but I doubt it.

Dean Richter, Ben Lomond

Target would fit in a shopping center......
written by Alvin Vanne, May 10, 2008
Target does not fit next to the hotel and fancy existing subdivision. Acres of parking and a big box store would be an ugly gateway to the City of Scotts Valley. The view from Hwy. 17 would say: "We have no idea what we are doing or planning."

Target would go well as part of the new Town Center.....Or...... Target can wait for K-Mart to finish going downhill, and move there after they vacate, where there is already a big building and plenty of parking.

I can also see Target somewhere on SV Drive. The proposed location by Hwy. 17 would not be attractive and it is likely to cause a traffic nightmare that would never end.
