SLV majors squads hammer Live Oak

The San Lorenzo Valley majors division teams began a series of interleague games with their counterparts from Live Oak Little League.

All four SLV teams were victorious.

SLV Dodgers 11 vs. Live Oak Blue Jays 4

Johnny Lucas hit two home runs and a triple for five RBIs. Daniel Peters also doubled in two runs. Andrew Adams had two hits, one a double for an RBI. T.J. Shaw hit a triple for an RBI.

SLV Padres 15 vs. Live Oak Giants 2

Ajay Morrison went 3-for-4 for the Padres with two doubles and five RBIs. Max La Capria was 2-for-2 and knocked in three runs. Jordan Peabody also doubled in a run.

In the Giants’ game, Ben Knudson hit the second home run of his career in consecutive games — this one a grand slam to start a six-run second-inning rally. He went 4-for-4 and tripled and doubled twice. Matt Phillips hit a triple, double and single and batted in three runs. Trevor Patterson had two doubles, a triple and single with four RBIs.

SLV Brewers 5 vs. L.O. Yankees 2

Billy Mullins of the Brewers hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning, which was all they’d need. Thomas Dirck also singled in a run. Mullins threw 87 pitches and struck out 13.

SV Bulls clip Owlz’ wings

The last undefeated team in Scotts Valley Little League action fell last week as the 13-0 Owlz of the Double-A Division were stampeded by the Bulls, 8-2.
That defeat came one week after Kirk Kim’s Triple-A Division Astros upended the previously

11-0 Padres by a 14-9 score.

Parker McQuillan and Timmy Wagner, who allowed just one run in the final three innings of the game, starred on the mound for the Astros in that victory.
Offensively, the Astros were paced by Tanner Spence and Andy Ramirez, who each went 2-for-2. Ramirez knocked in three runs, Wagner scored three, and Spence, Joseph Kim, Jacob Kim and Ryan Hober scored two each.

Double-A Division
Bulls 8 vs. Owlz 2

The hard-charging Bulls, 4-0 since kids began pitching at mid-season, defeated the previously unbeaten Owlz on May 1. Robert Riemer was the star on his birthday, pitching effectively and hitting a line-drive home run to left-center field and doubling.

Almost every Bull hit safely, and Brennan Gillen and Mitch Gaspar closed out the win from the mound. The Owlz got good production out of the top of their order as leadoff man Conor Santos was 3-for-3 and No. 2 hitter Reilly Merlo was 2-for-3.

Riverdogs 10 vs. Rivercats 4

Chris Coprivizia, Nicholas Alvarez and Ryan Bariteau were perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 for the Riverdogs. Joey Reksoatmodjo was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Coprivizia pitched two scoreless innings while fanning five.
Jonathan Steen was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Rivercats, while Cameron McGrew was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

John Marshall added a double and a run, while Max Chambers and Niklas Ohlsson had RBI singles. Cade Gillen and Ben Acker both pitched shutout innings for the Rivercats.

Triple-A Division
Astros 5 vs. Marlins 2

Great defense and pitching were the hallmarks of this game. McQuillan and Spence each pitched two shutout innings for the Astros, while Joseph Kim went 3-for-3, McQuillan doubled and Casey Gombos tripled.

The Marlins’ Jacob Weichmann held the opposition scoreless in his three innings of pitching, while teammate Jacob Utic was 3-for-3 and Dalton Locke made a spectacular catch in left field to choke off a bases-loaded Astros rally.
