Santa Cruz County elections officials are preparing the groundwork for
the presidential general election Nov. 4.
Even as they’re counting the final ballots from the June 3 election, Santa Cruz County elections officials are preparing the groundwork for the presidential general election Nov. 4.
With 38 seats to be filled on local public agency governing boards, County Clerk Gail Pellerin and her staff have scheduled informational workshops for prospective candidates in four cities, including Scotts Valley.
Filing starts July 14 and ends Aug. 8. If an incumbent does not file, the deadline for that seat will be extended to Aug. 13.
Open seats in November
Scotts Valley City Council — 3 members.
School trustees — San Lorenzo Valley, 2; Scotts Valley, 3; Bonny Doon, 2.
Fire board members — Ben Lomond, 3; Felton, 3; Scotts Valley, 3; Zayante, 3; Boulder Creek, 2.
Water district directors — Lompico, 3; San Lorenzo Valley, 2; Scotts Valley, 2.
Boulder Creek Recreation and Parks District — 3 directors.
County Board of Education — 1 trustee.
Santa Cruz Port District (encompasses Pasatiempo) — 3 commissioners.
Boulder Creek Fire Protection District also will have a ballot measure increasing the size of its board from three members to five.
