"We believe we can incorporate Felton and absorb the (other) duties in Felton with our current staff," said Jim Mueller, district manager.
After ownership of the Felton system transferred from the privately owned Cal-Am to the publicly owned district, district officials determined that keeping the entire staff was unnecessary.
The district said the retained employee is a water treatment and system operator but wouldn’t disclose the person’s name.
The former Felton employees have another option, however.
Cal-Am has offered all of its former Felton employees a job in the place of their choosing in California, said Cal-Am spokesman Kevin Tilden.
"They’re all wonderful people, and they’ve had a very tough time in the past five years," Tilden said.
The company will create a position at any of the company’s operations, Tilden said. The closest system is in Monterey.
"It’s the least we can do," Tilden said.
Interesting that the press is willing to offer a positive side to Cal Am now that they are on their way out of town.
This is all going to come back to haunt us. Many Felton residents are using the term "buyers' remorse" these days.
