1971: A 1968 U.S. Olympian in the 10,000 meters, Tom Laris topped the field of 175. Laris, 31, had finished 16th in the Mexico City Olympics three years before.
1973: The Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz was run for the first time.
1974: The race was canceled by the Felton Business Association.
1977: Boy Scouts were placed along the course to keep runners on track. A 21-year-old Brigham Young University student won the now 6.9-mile race in 36:41.
1981: Dan Gruber of Scotts Valley won the race in a course record 36:20.
1982: Mark Genet and his teammate on the Aggies Running Club registered as "Leavon Tyme" and "Justin Thyme" and finished first and second.
1986: The race started and finished in Henry Cowell State Park, with Scotts Valley’s Pat Rainey, a former Harbor High runner, taking the win. Lori Hooker of Capitola won the woman’s race.
1993: Rainey became a three-time winner, while an All-American track star from Penn State won the women’s division.
1995: Former Boulder Creek resident and SLV track star Stephanie Thornley finished 23rd overall and won the women’s division.
1996: Felton’s Larry Bartholomew and Ben Lomond’s Debbie Sinnott were the first SLV residents to win the race.
1999: SLV High grad Eric Folkins won the race.
2002: Shiloh Whiting, a former SLV High star and runner at the University of Arkansas won the women’s race in 39:56.
2007: Carlos Siqueiros won the men’s race in 34:33, and Danielle Widenmann of Fairfield took the women’s crown in 43:34.
