I can remember 50 years ago when the community I lived in was bulldozed for an urban renewal project.
I remember 30 years ago when we asked the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors to say no to developing Felton’s meadow entrance with a shopping center. Only Henry Mello, then a supervisor and later a state Senator, said no.
In both cases, our elected leaders did not ask the community if it wanted the project. Every time they build these projects, they become what we knew as “the projects.” Our Felton community does not need or want an urban density project.
