"I am surprised and disappointed at the tone used in Chuck Comstock’s first column for the Press-Banner"
EDITOR, I am surprised and disappointed at the tone used in Chuck Comstock’s first column for the Press-Banner (“The $100 million man,” Aug. 29). With his background as the former Scotts Valley city manager, it would have been more interesting and informative hearing what candidates he endorses, his opinion of the proposed Target store and the Town Center development. Let’s face it, a mid-county interchange will not be built in our lifetime, whether it costs $3 million or $100 million. According to an article by Gary Richards in the San Jose Mercury News on Aug. 30, the new flyway overpass at the junction of Highway 152 and Highway 156 cost $35 million and no property acquisitions were required. Should a mid-town interchange be used as a mitigating factor to justify traffic problems that will surely occur with the proposed Town Center or Target store? W.R. White, Scotts Valley

I hope future columns stick to facts and opinions, and are not used to drag down local people who care about the city's appearance and future.

written by MTI at City Council Meeting, September 11, 2008
Former City Manager Comstock and Planning Commission Member Michael Shulman seem to be writing a lot about the MTI these days telling everyone that the MTI is a real project. Despite the fact that it hasn't found funding in close to 20 years. This is a topic that needs to be discussed publicly at a Council meeting. Four meetings of the Scotts Valley City Council have now passed since Vice Mayor Cliff Barrett asked Mayor Johnson to add a public discussion about the viability of the Mid-Town Interchange to the Council agenda. To date Mayor Johnson has refused to place the topic on the Council agenda. Clearly the topic is of interest to the citizens yet the Mayor seems to be ignoring not only the voters but also the Vice Mayor's request. Mayor Randy Johnson is this another case where you and Dene Bustichi would rather not have the citizens informed and involved in the process? Please stop stalling and schedule the meeting!
