The former site of the Christian Science church in Felton will become a Montessori preschool-child care center following approval by the Santa Cruz County zoning administrator.
Owner Melinda Gillen plans to move Quail Hollow Montessori from the former Quail Hollow School campus in Ben Lomond to the church building at 187 Laurel Drive and expand the facility to include infant and toddler programs.
Eventual enrollment would be 66 children.
Gillen also operates Scotts Valley Children’s Center at 255B Mt. Hermon Road.
The church closed in 2006 due to dwindling attendance.
In her application, approved Sept. 5, Gillen said she plans no immediate changes to the building but might expand slightly in the future.

And I know that there are many good hard-working preschool teachers in our area that are looking for work. As well as giving jobs to those who will remodel the church, and who will supply the center with food and milk, and those parents who will be able to have more flexible work schedules thanks to a nice new center.
All over a good strong business who already has a great client base like this will strengthen the Felton Community and make it more than a few good coffee shops, restaurants, and Safeway/NewLeaf.
