Central Home Supply opens in SV

Central Home Supply, which says it’s the county’s largest building supplies dealer, opened for business this week on four acres at 180 El Pueblo Road in Scotts Valley.

Hemmed in at its Santa Cruz location, Central Home plans to eventually close the longtime original site at Highway 9 and Highway 1, according to co-owner Rick Santee.

The business serves contractors and homeowners seeking stone, sand, gravel, construction hardware, soil products and similar items.

The City Council approved Central Home’s use permit application despite opposition from Scotts Valley Rockery, a nearby competitor, and adjoining Canepa Design, which was worried about dust. An agreement between owner Bruce Canepa and Santee removed that objection.

Central Home is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.

Yoga classes to start for teens

Kelly Curtis Yoga will begin six-week yoga classes for teenagers in Scotts Valley and Boulder Creek on Oct. 1.

“Yoga is a tool that can help smooth their transition into adulthood while giving them an opportunity to have fun,” owner Kelly Curtis said.

“Many teens have low self-esteem, are learning habits from friends that can be damaging to mind and body or have learned intolerance of other lifestyles. Yoga teaches teens to respect themselves and others.”
