For the 23rd year, Henry Cowell Redwood State Park in Felton will host
Ohlone Day, a hands-on celebration of the traditions of the native
people of Santa Cruz County, on Saturday, Sept. 20.
For the 23rd year, Henry Cowell Redwood State Park in Felton will host Ohlone Day, a hands-on celebration of the traditions of the native people of Santa Cruz County, on Saturday, Sept. 20.
There will be dances, stories, games, food and crafts. Here is the schedule:
- 10:30 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. — nature walk and traditional uses of plants
- 11 a.m., 12:30 and 3 p.m. — storytelling
- 11:30 a.m. — demonstration of the atlatl, a dart-throwing weapon
- 1 p.m. — Patrick Orozco of the Pajaro Valley Ohlone Indian Council and the Amah KaTura Dancers
- 2:30 p.m. — flint knapping (making stone tools), with local Girl Scouts showing the tools
- 3:30 p.m. — grand finale
