Rotary Club of San Lorenzo Valley The club honored the new teachers and administrators in San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District at a breakfast meeting in the high school cafeteria. Club members also volunteered at the Santa Cruz County Fair, painting the walls and props in the Art Building and assisting in the office. Club members attended the Farm Bureau barbecue and rode in the tractor parade on opening day of the fair.
October programs Oct. 1: Lori Hede, Children’s Center of the San Lorenzo Valley Bella Notte fundraiser; Oct. 8: Tracy Chappell, Easter Seals; Oct. 15: Rotary Partner in Service; Oct. 22: club assembly and vocational committee report; Oct. 29: Monica Quinn, Rebuilding Alliance. The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the Birch Dining Room on Conference Drive in the Mt. Hermon Conference Center in Felton. Cost is $10. Rotary Club of Scotts Valley The club presented $1,000 to each Scotts Valley public school at the Teacher Appreciation Brunch. Reports on upgrades made with last year’s donations were given by each of the principals. Nine Rotary volunteers worked the city E-Waste event, gathering four large truckloads for recycling.
October programs Oct. 13: Partners in Service; Oct. 27: Chiung-Chi Chen, Santa Cruz County Symphony. The club meets from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Lunch at noon costs $16. Scotts Valley Exchange Club The club meets for lunch at noon Wednesdays at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley Kiwanians heard from Charlotte Multer, president of the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation, about its activities supporting local schools. The club supports the foundation in major events throughout the year. Kiwanis provided its stage to the city of Marina, and rental proceeds will augment the Mike Smith scholarship fund. On California Cleanup Day, a team of Kiwanis members cleaned trash along Highway 17.
October programs Oct. 8: David Wright, new CEO of the Santa Cruz County chapter of the American Red Cross. The club meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mt. Hermon Road. Cost is $5 plus breakfast. A dinner meeting at the Heavenly Cafe replaces the morning meeting at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Cost is $14 in advance or $16 at the door. Meetings are open to guests and clubs welcome new members.
