A letter to the editor from Lois Blair in Scotts Valley

EDITOR,

I read with interest the letter from a writer who states that those individuals who support a Target store should move to San Jose. I guess by using that reasoning, we can say those who oppose the Target store might be happier living in Ben Lomond or Boulder Creek.

As a nearly 40-year resident of Scott Valley, I have seen a lot of changes. I hardly think a Target will turn Scotts Valley into San Jose.

And yes, money does matter. Revenues keep Scotts Valley operating, from roads to an excellent police department.

Welcome, Target.

So people who like rural living should go to Felton or Ben Lomond? No, we should stay right here where we like it and not change Scotts Valley. Why do you people want to change Scotts Valley? You don't like it the way it is? Too boring for you? You want Santana row? Well there it is. Go live over there and see how you like it cuz that's how Scotts Valley's going to be if they get their way. The traffic is already to an intolerable level.

We need revenues for police and roads? How much policing do beautiful empty fields and meadows need? None. They wouldn't need so much revenue if they would have just left Scotts Valley the way it was. And the roads wouldn't need repair if their wasn't so much traffic. They built all this stuff now need police and city services for it so they want to build even more stuff to get revenue for it. Then the new stuff will need police and city services. A never ending spiral of over-development that is ruining SV. You hardly think a Target will turn SV int SJ? That's your opinion. I think it will. But that's not all they want to build. The town center will have 100 condos and 200 apartments. 300 high-density dwellings and all that traffic going back and for to Target in addition to what we already got. Oh and yet another stoplight on Mt. hermon road. And we're not done yet. To alleviate the intolerable traffic jams on mt. Hermon rd. they want to build a mid-town exchange that will connect el pueblo rd. with green hills rd. sending some of the traffic up SV dr. and opening up that quite country green hills area, running santa cruz/hwy 17 traffic down green hills road ruining that quite secluded area. And I could go on and on about all the development they want to do. It seems they despise open fields and meadows and can't stand them. Their intent its to eliminate every last one. Enough is enough. Stop ruining Scotts Valley.
