Volunteers are being sought for the 22nd annual San Lorenzo Valley
River and Road Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
Volunteers are being sought for the 22nd annual San Lorenzo Valley River and Road Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.
Families, clubs, groups and individuals are needed to help pull trash from the San Lorenzo River, its tributaries and nearby roadsides, according to Nancy Macy, environmental committee chairwoman for the co-sponsoring Valley Women’s Club.
The effort helps prevent the summer’s accumulation of debris from being washed out to Monterey Bay by the rains.
“Everyone concerned with the health and beauty of the San Lorenzo River is encouraged to participate,” Macy said.
Signups will be taken on cleanup day at three collection sites: the SLV Redemption/Recycling Center, 15485 Bear Creek Road, in Boulder Creek; corner of Highway 9 and Fillmore Street, in Ben Lomond, and on Hihn Street next to Rite Aid in Felton.
Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Participating students will receive community-service credit.
Macy encouraged residents to notify the women’s club in advance of places that need focused attention. For information, call 338-1728 or visit www.vwcweb.org.
The women’s club organizes the cleanup. Co-sponsors are San Lorenzo Valley Water District and the county, which provide trucks and drivers to carry materials to the Ben Lomond Transfer Station for disposal and recycling.
The event is separate from Coastal Cleanup Day, which included the river in Felton, on Sept. 20.
