A letter to the editor from Kathy Mitchell in Scotts Valley

EDITOR,

I am writing in support of Dene Bustichi for Scotts Valley City Council.

I have known him on a professional and personal level for many years, and I have seen the sacrifices he has made for this town.

Bustichi was working for Scotts Valley long before he was elected to the council. He is too modest to let anyone know of the numerous times he has helped the senior center, the middle school and the high school — he even took it upon himself to make sure that a family whose children would normally do without Christmas had gifts under its tree.

It seems that when someone needs a hand in Scotts Valley, the first person they think to call is Bustichi, and he’s always there to do what he can.

I have seen him and his family personally attacked and watched as he responded to these insults with courtesy and tact. He has given up time with his family and time running his business all for the benefit of Scotts Valley, because he truly loves this town.

If someone were to ask me to sum up Bustichi, I would say integrity and loyalty. He is the epitome of what this town is all about.

I am voting for Scotts Valley — I’m voting for Dene Bustichi.

Kathy Mitchell, Scotts Valley

Oh Kathy Mitchell. You mean the Kathy Mitchell who is employed by Dene Bustichi? That Kathy Mitchell? The Kathy Mitchell who gave more money to the Measure C campaign then the Mayor did? That Kathy Mitchell? Yeah, we know who butters your bread.

Developers on rampage
written by rich leblanc, October 09, 2008
Many of you may think that Scotts Valley will remain a nice little town to live in. Read the Town Center plan. They want to turn SV into a "shopping mecca" and "shopping destination" for the entire county like 41st ave.. The town center will be densely packed three story buildings like Pacific Garden mall with three story apartment buildings and multi-level concrete parking gargage like Capitola mall or Valley fair. We will loose the open space feeling and views replaced with views of three story apartments and ugly city. Dean is a developer. He owns a construction company. The city wants to make Scotts Valley shopping centers and high density housing from one end to the other and a midtown interchange (another off ramp between the other two) to relieve the traffic jams. This town will be radically changed for the worse forever. We need to vote these developers out who are ruining SV with too much San Jose-like over-development. I'm supporting Kertai, Machado, and Walker. So far I think it's our best chance to save this town.

Do you even look as you drive down sv drive or mt. hermon road? It is filled with many run down buildings. The town center has been well planned and well designed. I for one would love to walk to a town center with lots of shopping, food, business's and afforable housing for those who would love to live in our wonderful city. I would rather stay close to home and not drive to pacific garden mall. I hope we will become a destination that will bring people in to support all the local shops and resturants. I have lived here for 20 years and I am so excited to have scotts valley finally look like a real town.

Town Center not well planned
written by rich leblanc, October 10, 2008
You've lived here 20 years? Why? For shopping malls, Targets and traffic? Or for the beautiful scenery and small town atmosphere which is quickly disappearing? Why don't you live next to Pacific Garden Mall or Capitola mall? Cuz the atmosphere sucks. And that's just how we'll be. It's already starting to look like 41st ave. or Stevens Creek blvd. You and a lot of other people hope we bring people in. That will add lots more traffic to an already crowded town an ruin it even more. I don't even like to go into SV anymore. It's very unpleasent to deal with all that traffic. Our quality of life has already been ruined and going to get much worse so you and others can have a place to shop. Scotts Valley already looks like a real town it's just going to look like a different one, San Jose.

Planning and development have been public processes
written by Michael Shulman, October 10, 2008
Rick, I'm sorry that you don't approve of how SV has developed since it's incorporation 40+ years ago. But every step of that development has been through open, public processes that everyone has had a chance to participate in -- either through running for elected office, supporting / opposing those seeking office, providing input (verbal or written) on proposed projects, or proposing projects of their own. Many hundreds of people have done just this, some on a regular and repeated basis. Many decisions have been controversial, and I don't know anyone who is fully satisfied with many of the decisions that have been made -- some would have preferred some projects had never happened, or were built differently, while others would have preferred that certain projects would have been approved that were denied.

You're a resident in a home that was built as part of the development cycle, in a project no doubt opposed by some. I've seen it written more than once in these blogs how the Monte Fiori development destroyed a beautiful tranquil valley, in response to comments from Monte Fiori residents that the proposed Target shouldn't destroy the field outside their development. And on it goes ....
