Sprenger leads in campaign fundraising.
Barbara Sprenger of Felton leads in raising campaign funds for the 27th District Assembly race in 2008.
Sprenger has raised $67,519 compared with Reilly’s $63,104 among candidates to replace Assemblyman John Laird in 2008. Bill Monning, a Monterey attorney, also is in the race, with $22,630 raised.
Unlike Reilly and other candidates, Sprenger, a former San Lorenzo Valley school trustee, began fundraising in 2006, which accounts for her larger campaign chest.
Of the totals, Springer personally had lent her campaign $25,000 and Reilly $4,000.
Expenses for the first half of the years totaled $31,092 for Reilly, who has hired a Berkeley campaign firm, and $9,798 for Sprenger.
