“The nights were just amazing. The jungle comes alive at night ....” — Shahla Motamedi, Ben Lomond resident
A group of local residents recently returned from an eco-tour of Ecuador, Peru, the Amazon jungle and the Galapagos Islands.
They were on an adventure organized by Shahla Motamedi of Ben Lomond, who has arranged such tours for a decade. Her next will be to Australia and Papua New Guinea in August.
In South America, the group visited a cloud forest reserve outside Quito, Ecuador’s capital, in the northwest of the continent. Some continued to Peru to see the Machu Picchu ruins and other sights. They also took a motorized canoe trip down the down the Madre de Dios River in the Amazon jungle.
“The nights were just amazing,” Motamedi reported. “The jungle comes alive at night with the concert of frogs, crickets, birds and monkeys.”
Joan Kneass of Scotts Valley noted that “it was an adventure beyond expectations. The Galapagos Islands may be calling me back.”
The 2008 sojourn “down under” will include snorkeling, trekking, outrigger canoeing, hiking, bushwalking, kayaking and visits to tribal communities.
