Local ghost hunters think they’ve spotted something peculiar on footage shot at the Brookdale Inn.

The group of paranormal investigators sought evidence of ghosts stirred up by renovations of the old lodge. After reviewing infrared footage shot by Bruce Bellochio, they think they’re on to something. Amanda Matthews/Press Banner
Brager described what the group caught on tape as a “stargate,” similar to portals in the science-fiction thriller. On the team’s first walkthrough of the lodge at about 10:30 p.m., two members of his team seemed to get fuzzy or out of focus on the film, even while the surrounding picture remained crystal clear. “It was like they were walking into some plasma thing,” Breger said. Ed Hayes and Shelly Crowley, the team members who led the first walkthrough, both moved in and out of the anomaly that was caught by cameraman Bruce Bellochio using an infrared camera. “I had some of the heaviest feelings I’ve had in my life before,” Hayes said after the walkthrough. What was this group of moonlighters doing that Thursday night? The group was searching for the evidence of paranormal activity in the inn after Boulder Creek’s Breger, the fleet manager at Ocean Honda in Santa Cruz, heard recent reports of shadowy figures.

Amanda Matthews/Press Banner Breger and Hayes believe the recent change of ownership and the remodeling that is taking place at the inn, formerly the Brookdale Lodge, has stirred spirits that are rumored to lurk there. Six-year-old Sarah Logan, the daughter of the original owners of the Brookdale Lodge, died in the creek that runs through the Brook Room. Her ghost is rumored to walk the halls In 1972, a woman reportedly died in the swimming pool that faces the mermaid room, and her ghost is said to wander the rooms of the resort. Breger said there have been nine reported deaths in the history of the lodge. “If there is a place for trapped spirits, this could be one of them,” said Hayes, who has yet to have a sighting, despite several junkyard investigations with Breger. Breger’s team is Renaldo Williams, Brandi Sause, Crowley, Hayes and Bellochio.
![]() The team tries to summon spirits through a Ouija Board. Amanda Matthews/Press Banner He and his team filmed the two-hour investigation Jan. 17 that cumulated with a Ouija board experience as four members of the team tried to contact any spirits in the building. “Our intentions are nothing but good,” Breger said during the investigation. “We want to communicate with any kind of good entity that wants to manifest itself here.”
Breger said he’s been investigating paranormal activity with his team for about two years. They have already made an amateur film of their exploration of junkyards, which Breger said is where spirits often will be, especially around wrecked cars where someone died. “The whole thing is a misunderstanding,” said Poon, who said Breger asked one of his staff, but never got the OK from him. “It is not something we actually support.” However, he is not going to pursue it further. “It is not really a big deal, so we just let it go,” he said. On Saturday, Febuary 9th, the local rock band "The Reliques" will be playing at the Brookdale Inn. We are hoping to conjure up some spirits with our rock.

If lead investigator Erich Breger reads this...I would like to know if you are interested in anymore investigators? I was so excited to read the articles about your investigations at the Brookdale lodge. It is great that there is now a local paranormal investigation group. How does one get ahold of you, Mr. Breger? I, as well as my children have had paranormal experiences in my own home and most especially another home on my street when it was vacant after the untimely death of it's young owner. As a matter of fact, I have quite a few photos of orbs, a face and a spirit coming off the bed of the dead owner.I also caught an evp voice of what sounds like a child. The height of the paranormal activity on my street was about 4 years ago..since then .nothing. If you would like to see my photos I would be more than happy to send them to you,Mr. Breger. You may however have already seen them as a while ago I gave one of your investigators, Shelly Crowley, copies of my photos of the ghost on the bed, the face, the orbs and the evp voice. I know of Shelley and we were talking one day and at the time she was so interested in getting copies of what I have. I had no idea there was an investigative team here in Boulde rCreek until I read about it in the papers.Shelley never told me. Exciting news. I have a cousin who lives in Florida and is a former member if the Florida Ghost Team. Her old team leader from the Florida team, Robb Demarest, is now the team leader of the new Sci Fi show, Ghost Hunters Interntional. Fun stuff!
Anyway, good luck with your future investigations and happy ghost huntiing. sincerely, vikki krupp Boulder Creek, CA. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it report abuse

I am 13 and I believed in ghosts but not enough to where I had actually seen one before, but that day changed my life. The day I steped foot into the brookdale lodge. My dad told me about the deaths and i did not believe him untl i saw little sarah's ghost! I walked into the lodge and suddenly it got very cold. Me, my dad, and my sister looked into the dining room through the window and I saw sarah for about five seconds but I was the only one that saw her then we left because I got too creeped out.I have never gone back since. I know people may think that this is a joke but this is nothing but the truth!!
