April 24, 1945 — July 31, 2012
Cathie Jean Dominguez, 67, a former Scotts Valley Woman of the Year, died July 31 at Stanford University Medical Center with family members by her side. A celebration of her life will be scheduled for September.
Mrs. Dominguez, most recently a resident of Capitola, was born in Alhambra to Jim and Jean Fearnehough. The family moved to Santa Cruz County, where Mrs. Dominguez remained a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Dominguez served on the Scotts Valley and Capitola chambers of commerce and was named Scotts Valley Woman of the Year in 1987. She was also a co-leader of Girl Scouts of America Troop 1013.
Relatives described her as an active, vivacious woman. She was an avid tennis player, though slowed in later years by a knee replacement.
Mrs. Dominguez worked in the local banking industry for many years, starting as a teenage teller at County Bank and working her way up to loan manager. She left banking for self-employment as a real estate appraiser in 1987. She and her husband moved from Scotts Valley to Capitola to enjoy retirement in 2003.
For enjoyment, Mrs. Dominguez attended the summer concerts at the beach and was involved with the Begonia Festival and the Capitola Art and Wine Festival.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Dave Dominguez of Capitola; daughter, Alison Dominguez of Charlotte, N.C.; mother, Jean Fearnehough of Santa Cruz; brothers, Marc Fearnehough and Michael Fearnehough, and their families, all of Santa Cruz, and Steve Fearnehough of Fairbanks, Alaska; a large extended family in the Santa Cruz area and Southern California; and an extensive network of friends, including the residents of Capitola Village.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Taylor Fearnehough.
Arrangements are pending for a celebration of life to be held in September.
