Kiwanis of the Valleys

The Club will honor member Charlie Wise at a special ceremony on April 29 at San Lorenzo Valley High School for his long time mentoring of the Kiwanis high school K Clubs at SLV, Pacific Collegiate School and Scotts Valley High School and his involvement with Boy Scout Troop 623.

By special invitation of Music at Skypark major sponsor GreenWaste Recovery, club members were treated to an informative tour of their recycling plant in San Jose. Planning for this summer’s Music at Skypark series is well underway, with both new and returning sponsors being currently enlisted. Non-member volunteer help with this program is welcome.

Kiwanis members spent the April 5 Kiwanis International Day of Service by volunteering labor at the new Annette Marcum Memorial Community Garden in Scotts Valley.

Additionally, the final touches are being put on the new, improved and updated club website.

All are welcome to meet with Kiwanis at Bruno’s BBQ at 7 a.m. every Wednesday morning and the second Wednesday of each month is an evening meeting at Bruno’s at 6:30 p.m.

Valley Women’s Club

The Valley Women’s Club has a couple busy months coming up, and invites your participation.

Volunteers are needed for the Redwood Mountain Faire, May 31 and June 1. Four hours of volunteer time means free entry that day.

Volunteers are also needed to help with a concentrated two hour San Lorenzo River clean up, on National River Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 17 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Register at or simply come to the Felton Covered Bridge Park or the Henry Cowell Park Visitors Center at 9 a.m. to help.

After the clean-up that same day, enjoy the Sanctuary Celebration on the Santa Cruz Wharf, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Make non-toxic environmental cleaners at the VWC booth, a part of the Environmental Committee’s Green Solutions outreach. Find many activities, food and fun to celebrate the Monterey Bay Sanctuary.
