EDITOR,
Is Bruce McPherson pro-environment? Should you take the word of his endorsers? Personally, I’d rather check his environmental voting record while he served in the state legislature.
Since 1973, the California League of Conservation Voters has tallied pro- and anti-environmental votes in each year’s state legislative session.
According to CLCV, in 2004 — his last year in office as a state senator — McPherson voted pro-environment only 6 percent of the time, compared to the average state Senate Democrat, who voted pro-environment 87 percent of the time.
Of course, considering that Sen. McPherson was a Republican then, his environmental voting record didn’t look so pathetic. The average Republican voted pro-environment only 1.5 percent of the time.
We deserve true environmental leadership in Santa Cruz County. I support Eric Hammer for 5th District Supervisor.
Betsy Herbert, Santa Cruz

Also, do you really believe that Eric will represent the residents of the 5th District? Or just the Valley Women's Club. Seriously think about it.
And all the misrepresentations about the Boulder Creek Rec District's proposed purchase of properties to build a future Rec Hall aren't supported by the actions of that Board, which is posted on the agency website.
Ugly talk, from shadowy people, distractions to obscure the really important issue--which candidate really knows, understands, and will truly represent the interests of the residents of the 5th District, every day, not just the ones involving a politcal contest.

If you care about the environment, that's a vote for Bruce.
If you care about how women are treated, that's a vote for Bruce.
If you care about an intelligent representative, that's a vote for Bruce.
When they move to enact restrictions on wood burning stoves, which they intend to do, the supervisor's office must reach out to the citizens and important groups in the valley. For a change.
I want ev’rybody to be free
So if you think that I’ll let that fake enviro women’s group
Dictate policy and elect a nincompoop
You must think I’m crazy!
I wouldn’t let them do it for all the farms in Cuba…
Eric Hammer's supporters/advisors/handlers are the very same which formed an astroturf group supporting the Felton Fair housing project.
I can just picture it:
Environmental Meeting 10:00am
Get SUV serviced 11:00am
Attend meeting preventing valley homeowners from remodeling: 1:00pm
Form astroturf group to build 60 houses and apartments in rural Felton 3:00pm
Pathetic.
McPherson only cares about the votes he might get in the SLV. Other than that he could care less about us. Voting for Mcpherson just because you don't want to vote for Hammer is a poor reason to vote.
I say if you so intently have a concern about someone's lack of qualifications, well then that's the very best reason to vote against them.
Vote, people, vote!
I guess it should not matter when people cannot remember my name.
I was not pissed off about the Zayante Meadows Project. I opposed it because I knew from training and experience that any on-site sewage disposal system proposed for the site was likely to fail, due to high groundwater, springs, 7 micro-wetlands, and very poorly percolating soils. I knew it was close to Zayante Creek and the San Lorenzo River. I did not want to see the project become an environmental and public health disaster. It also would have been a financial burden to the county, the developer, and the new residents, when they tried to repair the failing system in the future. Projects should be designed to fit the site conditions, not vice versa.
By the way, I do not get to vote on the question at hand, living so "far" away in Bonny Doon (i.e. right next door). That being said, I really like the SLV and especially Felton, my favorite small town.
Good luck to you all. Enjoy your very special place on earth.

Because, well, obviously the Felton meadow housing project could not be construed as "improvements", it was a disaster and that whole crew is embarrassed about it now.
On the other hand, I think they see the new big recreation center as a community improvement.
BUT on the other hand, Mr. McPherson has PLENTY! seems there are loads of posts on his record...
VOTE FOR HAMMER! We need his leadership and vision, not the same old shiat!
Voting record based on percentages instead of finding out if the bill was solid or a boondoggle? Intelligent people ask questions.
Plus, as Carla implied, comparing records may not be the best thing for the Hammer-man. Some of his skeletons are still fairly fresh and juicy.
Sounds like a pretty lame reason to vote for a candidate. Pretty pathetic that your feelings trump what is best for our community.
