Valley Women’s Club announces community grants

Applications are now being accepted for Community Grants funded by the Valley Women’s Club of the San Lorenzo Valley.

According to a news release, the Community Grant Program seeks to support organizations, individuals, students, teachers, and groups whose projects strengthen organizations and projects in the San Lorenzo Valley.

Proposals must be for capital improvements, including repairs and/or tangible equipment. Grants will range from $250 to $3,000.

Highest priority will be given to those proposals that address environmental, educational or social issues that affect the health and welfare of San Lorenzo Valley residents.

MCT seeks volunteers for Redwood Mountain Faire

Mountain Community Theater announced that it is seeking two volunteers to serve as greeters and roaming performers at this year's Redwood Mountain Faire on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1.

Volunteer greeters will welcome guests to the Faire, spread the message that the Faire is a benefit for local nonprofit organizations, direct attendees to the appropriate ticket lines, hand out schedules and programs, remind attendees that they must get a 21+ over wrist band, survey guests about their experience and report anyone too intoxicated to security staff.

Roaming performers will Dress in costume and interact and/or perform for Faire attendees.

Only 15 shifts per day will be available, so sign up quickly to ensure a spot.

Local students' art to be featured at art show

Several pieces created by students from San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley high schools will be featured on display at the Santa Cruz Art League's Annual High School Art Show.

The reception will be held at the Santa Cruz Art League, located at 526 Broadway in Santa Cruz, between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.

Local sculptor Jenni Ward, who is the ceramics judge for the event, will discuss the show Saturday night at 8 p.m. on “It's A Question Of Balance” on KSCO AM 1080.
