A memorial service will be held this weekend to honor the life of Rose Marie Demler, who died Feb. 25 in Santa Cruz with her family by her bedside following a sudden illness. She was 57.
Mrs. Demler was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived many years in Massachusetts before moving to Santa Cruz with her children 15 years ago. She had worked at the Oak Tree Villa retirement community in Scotts Valley for the past eight years.
According to relatives, Mrs. Demler’s family was of paramount importance to her, and in her illness, she continued to place the needs of others before her own.
Mrs. Demler is survived by her daughter and son in-law Nicole and James Parmentier of Santa Cruz and their two children; her daughter Sara Demler of Santa Cruz; and her son, Joseph Demler of Santa Cruz.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Demler, in 1989.
A memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., in Santa Cruz. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga, N.Y., where Mrs. Demler will be laid to rest beside her parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Demler’s memory to her surviving children in care of her daughter Nicole by contacting Pacific Gardens Chapel via www.pacificgardenschapel.com.
