Scarborough memorial tournament a success
The Scotts Valley competitive girl’s softball league hosted 22 teams from around the region in the first Alvin Scarborough Memorial tournament on June 2 and 3 inScottsValley. The Scotts Valley Trouble won the 14-and-under division and the Cabrillo Crushers took second. The Los Gatos Magic won the 12-and-under division withCarmeltaking second. The West Valley Slammers took first in the 10-and-under division and Redwood City Wicked took second. In the 8-and-under division the Gilroy Chaos took first and the San Bruno Storm took second. The two-day tournament featured four brackets of competition.
Middle school golf team takes title
Led by four golfers in the top 10, the Scott Valley Middle School golf team took first in the Central Coast Athletic League middle school golf championship at Delaveaga Golf Course on May 21.
The team scored had the low score of 171 followed by Aptos Middle School with 195 and Shoreline Middle School with 198.
A.J. Collishaw won the league championship in a playoff with a 41, followed by Drew Collishaw (42), Joe Shwartz (43), and Andrew Vu (45), Blake Utic (47), Ben Edens (47), Ryan Edwards (53) and Justin Jacobs (53).
The Scotts Valley team was undefeated with a 9-0 record this season. Joe Schwarz was named the team’s outstanding player for his consistent play. His best round was an even par 36 at Pajaro Valley through nine holes. Dakota, Neil Pacella and Colin McCahon also played on the team.
Local named academic All-American
Scotts Valley High School senior lacrosse player Scott Hunter was recently named an Academic All-American by the Central California Area of US Lacrosse.
Hunter, a senior at Scotts Valley High School, will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall and plans to major in economics and mathematics with a minor in computer science. He also plans to play on the MIT lacrosse team. Hunter is the son of Stephanie and David Hunter of ScottsValley.
