Private graduates from training

U.S. Army Pvt. Lucas N. Urbancic has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the first nine weeks, Urbancic completed basic combat training, which included instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, marksmanship and bayonet use, chemical warfare, field work and tactical exercises and other training. He also completed tank training and training to operate armored vehicles and handle ammunition.

Urbancic is the son of Lisa and Nathan Urbancic of Felton. He graduated from Cypress Charter High School in Live Oak in 2009.

Young marksman earns award

Felton seventh-grader Fox Pettinotti, who attends Nature Academy, recently received the National Rifle Association’s Distinguished Expert Marksmanship Award from the Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club.

Fox completed the requirements for 4-Position Rifle Qualification in July at age 11, making him the youngest recipient of the Distinguished Expert rating in the 81-year-history of the club. Shooters of any age can earn the rating, and junior shooters must meet the same requirements as adults.

The Distinguished Expert rating is the pinnacle of the NRA’s Marksmanship Qualification program, signifying a proficiency level paralleling that of a competitively classified Sharpshooter.

After reaching this nationally recognized skill level, Fox plans to begin shooting competitively. He hopes to qualify for the U.S.A. Junior Olympic shooting team.

He is the son of Grant Pettinotti and E. Ariel Young.

Tess Fitzgerald's cohorts were saying terrible, evil things about John Wirth on the Boulder Creek Family Network. We have hoped the BCFN was a nonpolitical family-friendly bunch. Saddened to see the partisan hostility invade that group.

Those BCFN comments have compelled me and my husband to vote for Mr. Wirth.

Boulder Creeks own JOHN WIRTH is running for Director of the Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District. Vote for John. It is time for a change with the B.C. Rec Center board of directors. It is time for the board to embrace a new face, a person with new ideas, a person who is upfront and most importantly, a director who works for and listens to the whole community, not just a chosen few. Vote for John Wirth.
