With the fall sports seasons closing, basketball is the main focus since it’s the only winter sport at Bethany University. The teams are off to inauspicious starts in the preseason, but will look to turn it around when conference play starts next month.

Cross country Freshman Wayne Smith and Brad Arkens participated in the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 20. Both men raced in the 8-kilometer race of approximately 5 miles.

Smith placed 284th with a time of 28 minutes, 46 seconds.

Arkens placed 295th with a time of 29:10, dropping 42 seconds off his previous best time and making this his best race of the year.

“It was a great race overall and a very good experience.” Arkens said. “We both plan on going back next year, but with a full team.”
