Two students from Scotts Valley High School and one from San Lorenzo Valley High School have been named National Merit Scholarship finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

From Scotts Valley High School, Maiya Moncino and Capella Yee were named, and from San Lorenzo Valley High School, Peter Horton.

There are 15,000 finalists in the 56th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The students will compete for 8,400 National Merit scholarships, valued at more than $36 million, that will be offered in the spring.

About half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
