Museum looking for model trains

The San Lorenzo Valley Museum is looking for exhibitors for its monthlong model train exhibition in September. The museum seeks cars of all gauges (O, HO, N, Z, LGB, etc.), as well as advertising, buildings, landscaping, scenes and more.

The free exhibit will run from Sept. 2 to Oct. 2 and will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Community Day approaches

Scotts Valley’s second Community Day will be Sept. 10, a Saturday.

Local merchants and residents will join together to support Scotts Valley’s schools.

Participating businesses will donate a percentage of their sales that day to the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation. Local families will also have yard sales to benefit the cause. The Scotts Valley High Parent Club will host a flea market at San Agustin Catholic Church, 257 Glenwood Drive.

Since May, the education foundation has contributed nearly $100,000 to local schools, allowing each school to keep its library open half-time and to reinstate or increase counseling for students.

Last year’s Community Day raised about $14,000, and the foundation hopes to top that amount this year. See next week’s Press-Banner for more details.
