Riders participating in the AMGEN Tour of California bike race will pedal through Bonny Doon and the San Lorenzo Valley on Monday, May 14 as part of the second leg of the eight-stage race. The stage begins in San Francisco, as riders make their way south on Highway 1 before making a turn on Bonny Doon Road, then onto Empire Grade Road, Bear Creek Road and finally into Boulder Creek. Riders will then make their way to Summit Road and into Soquel for a finish at Cabrillo College.
Some road closures will take place along the route, and drivers are advised to avoid these roads in the afternoon. For complete route information, go to amgentourofcalifornia.com.
Felton parade participants sought
Those who would like to participate in the Felton Remembers Parade should contact John Fasolas, 335-9256, to register.
The parade is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in downtown Felton, followed by the annual Covered Bridge festival at the Felton Covered Bridge Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those interested in a booth at the festival should contact John MacDonald at 335-1212.
Post office to collect food Saturday
The National Letter Carriers Association in conjunction with the US Postal Service will collect non-perishable food items, like soup, pasta, peanut butter, cereal and tuna, on Saturday, May 12 before the letter carrier arrives.
Residents can leave bags of good at their mailbox, or drop them off at local post offices.
The food donated in the valleys will go directly to Valley Churches United Missions to benefit people in the community.

Book fundraiser nets $2K
The San Lorenzo Valley Rotary Club’s “Do you have a book in you” event raised more than $2,000 for the club’s scholarship fund for San Lorenzo Valley High School students on April 23. Ten local authors and publishers shared about their books and allowed attendees to ask questions about writing and editing for publication. Those who shared included Nancy Lynn Jarvis, Susanne Lakin, David Weiss and Annie Elizabeth Porter and others.
