EDITOR,

In a recently published letter to the editor, the writer believes that “less than 3 percent” of the money raised by Bruce McPherson is “from our community” (“Hammer understands 5th District’s needs,” Michael Burns, May 25).

Here, I believe, are the real facts: Almost 600 contributors have given to McPherson’s campaign — nearly half of them are 5th District residents — which would mean they have given more to McPherson than to Eric Hammer. Put another way, about 95 percent of the donors to McPherson live in Santa Cruz County, which is very impressive.

Check the facts and those are, McPherson is being supported by more people from “our community” that anyone else in the race, from firefighters and environmentalists to Annette Marcum and Hilary Bryant. He always has promoted community involvement. I trust he will help us become a better community to safeguard our environment, parks and public safety, as well as give much-needed attention to our transportation network.

To "ugh": please keep online comments civil. I know it's tempting when writing anonymously to let emotions out, and I know that close political campaigns stir up emotion, but rudeness doesn't help either candidate or our ability as a community to move toward making things better in our Valley. People on each side honestly feel their candidate would help our community continue to get stronger and better; that's why we're supporting the people we support. Attacking each other anonymously online doesn't help move us in that direction. Let's remember our higher motivation in supporting our candidates please. Thanks!

Still, more supporters from the 5th District support McPherson than Hammer.

Another interesting statistic would be to see, of those Hammer supporters, which ones are attached to organizations which would drain the Valley's fair share of County resources away.

Well, Susan Webers name should have been been taken off the ballot .. after all, she did pull out of the race .. McPhearson would most probably have won outright (why was Webers name still on the ballot?)

mojca is sad because Hammer didn't lose like he wished. And as for "Math is Fun", we're still waiting for you to show us the money on what organizations would "drain" county resources as you elude to...which resources woudl those be????

If "nearly half" of McPherson's contributors are from the 5th District, that means that MORE than half of McPherson's donors are from outside the District he proposes to represent. I find this significant and troubling.

95% of the contributors live in Santa Cruz County? But only "nearly half" are from the 5th District? That means a lot of Santa Cruz County residents who don't live in the 5th District think it would be beneficial to them if Bruce McPherson rather than Eric Hammer represented our District. Why would that be? It's worth pondering. Could it be that they fear that Eric Hammer would more fiercely advocate for the Valley's fair share of County resources?

In addition, Hammer's donors include out of area unions from Los Angeles and Sacramento! WTF?!
Thank you

Finally! Thank you Mr Gross for writing the truth. I am sick and tired of the Hammer campaign posting lies about McPherson.

Bruce will make a wonderful Supervisor. Can't wait!

McPherson won't lift a finger to help the SLV. A vote for McPherson means several more years of "business as usual" in county government. That's ALL we need right now?

Just don't do it! Vote for Hammer!
