A memorial fund has been set up for Marilyn Izor, a Poway resident with strong ties to Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center, who died Nov. 10 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Izor died in Gilroy. She was 86.

Mrs. Izor was the second child of the late John and Gladys Zaebst of Cleveland, Ohio. Her older brother, Bob Zaebst, 90, died in April.

She met her husband, Herman Izor, at the Fairview Baptist Church in Fairview Village, Ohio, in 1945. They were married in 1946 and celebrated 66 years together in June.

The Izors raised three sons, were active in their churches and, after Mr. Izor’s retirement in 1974, traveled extensively throughout North America in their motorhomes and Airstream trailer.

As a young mother, Mrs. Izor was active in the local school PTA and served as president. She also enjoyed a successful career in several positions, including secretary to the head of a bank trust department.

In retirement, she volunteered in numerous community services agencies, including the Welcome Wagon, Wally Byam International Caravan Club, the Airstream owners club and hospital auxiliaries in Charlevoix, Mich., Tucson, Ariz., and Palomar, and Pomerado Hospital in Poway.

The family attended conferences at and supported Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center.

Upon moving to San Diego, the Izors became active in The Church at Rancho Bernardo, where she was a worship service greeter, marriage retreat mentor and volunteer.

Mrs. Izor regularly baked cakes and desserts for the Salvation Army mission.

She is survived by her husband, Herman Izor of Poway; three sons, Paul Izor, and his wife, Michele, of Mount Hermon, Robert Izor, and his wife, Catherine, of Medford, Ore., and Bill Izor, and his wife, Karen, of Poway; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many family members and friends.

A private burial was at Miramar National Cemetery, and a public memorial service was held Dec. 1 at The Church at Rancho Bernardo in San Diego.

A memorial fund has been established in remembrance of Marilyn Izor with Mount Hermon Association, P.O. Box 431, Mount Hermon, CA 95041.
