Kindergarten registration under way

Registration at local elementary schools is open until May 1 in Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley.

New students can be enrolled for kindergarten and transitional kindergarten classes that will begin in the fall. In SLV the first day of school is August 27 and in Scotts Valley, August 28.

Children must turn 5 years old by Sept. 30 to enter kindergarten in 2013.

Transitional kindergarten is open to children whose fifth birthday falls between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1. It was established in 2012 as an optional new grade level before kindergarten.

Public schools require parents to provide a copy of each child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency.
