Police closed Scotts Valley High School early Friday morning to investigate a threat to the school made via social media.
According to Scotts Valley Police Lt. John Wilson the threat was made by an anonymous person on Facebook at 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.
"Somebody posted anonymously that they were going to shoot up the school," Wilson said. "No one specific was targeted."
The post also stated "If you go to school tomorrow you will die," according to a press-release from the department.
A NIXLE emergency alert was sent out at 3:30 a.m. alerting the community that the school had been closed for the day Friday, April 12 as the department investigated the threat. Police closed the school as a precaution.
Wilson said the threat was made specifically about today, Friday. It was reported by a student to an officer.
"A student saw it and brought it to our attention," Wilson said.
Police continue to investigate in order to identify the person who posted the threat.
All athletic events at Scotts Valley High School are cancelled for the day, too, said Principal Valerie Bariteau who was at the entrance of the school, explaining the situation to parents and students on Friday morning.
