A memorial Mass will be celebrated May 11 in Santa Cruz for longtime Boulder Creek resident Melva Johnson, who died at her home April 21. She was 79.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Oakland to Frank and Allie Cox. She graduated with a degree in education from California State University, San Jose, in 1955.
She was married to Albert J. Johnson on July 3, 1954, in San Jose. Family said she enjoyed her life as a mother and homemaker on the Johnson Family Farm in Boulder Creek for more than 49 years.
Mrs. Johnson was active in her church, and family members said she enjoyed her time in prayer and Bible study each day.
Mrs. Johnson had a passion for travel, cultures and ministries around the world and touched many lives over the years.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Janet Johnson of Atascadero, Michael Johnson, and his wife, Aolele, of Boulder Creek, Rob and Terry Johnson of Boulder Creek and Susan Crow, and her husband, Wade, of Coral Springs, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Albert J. Johnson; oldest son Steven Johnson; her parents; brother Calvin Cox; and sister Aileen Wellman.
A memorial Mass will begin at 1:30 p.m. May 11 at High Street Community Church, 850 High St., in Santa Cruz.
