To the editor:

I have lived in Santa Cruz County since the ’70s and raised my son here. In my career as a social worker, I observed an increase in drug addiction, crime and violence. I also volunteer to clean up trash and syringes in our parks and open spaces. I’ve seen first-hand the damage that drug dens and illegal encampments have on our environment. I stopped taking my grandchildren to the parks my son played in as a child because we were outnumbered by ruffians and no longer safe. After listening to the sheriff candidates at the various forums, I believe that Roger Wildey is the best choice for keeping Santa Cruz County safe and clean. Mr. Wildey has pledged his support to numerous community groups who devote their time and energy to cleaning up Santa Cruz. Additionally, he has extensive leadership skills which our county greatly needs right now.

So much has gotten worse in the San Lorenzo Valley. The schools are failing and rampant with bullying and racism. Highway 9 looks like an episode of the Walking Dead with criminals yelling at cars and jumping in and out of traffic. It's just bizarre.

Such a beautiful place but the powers that be are not running things very well.
