Judging by past mid-year elections, Santa Cruz County Clerk Gail Pellerin expects voter turnout of “high 40’s to the 50 percent range” for tomorrow’s special election.

The Tuesday, May 19 election is intended to help resolve California’s budget crisis. Voters are asked to vote on six ballot measures 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, and 1F that will provide funding and avoid cuts to education, among hundreds of other programs statewide.

News agencies have reported little interest in the measures that some have deemed too complicated for voters. Statewide, Pellerin said, a high 30’s to 50 percent turnout is expected.

In Santa Cruz, Pellerin said, there has been a “big flurry” of voters on Tuesday afternoon.

“There’s no excuse not to come out and vote,” she said.
