Graham Hill Road namesake comes to life

Some of the first settlers in the Santa Cruz area lie at rest in Evergreen Cemetery, 326 Evergreen St., near Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz.

Community members will re-enact the lives of some of the people buried there — including Isaac Graham, the namesake of Graham Hill Road, who will be portrayed by Art Graham — with narration by Joan Nelson during free tours of the cemetery Saturday, Aug. 29.

Reduced-price meal applications sent out

Applications for free or reduced-price meals are now available for students enrolled in San Lorenzo Valley schools.

Forms were mailed to all households in the district and can also be picked up in the principal’s office of the child’s school.

To apply, parents must fill out the application and return it to the Student Nutrition Services.

Families that receive Food Stamps or other types of aid only need to mark down the child’s name, the case number of the aid source and the parents’ signature on the application form.

If a member of a student’s family becomes unemployed, the family should contact the school for possible benefits.
