Officers for the 2009-10 year were inducted Oct. 3 at Rio del Mar Beach.
The Circle K club at University of California, Santa Cruz, had its first meeting Oct. 21. Marshall Wolf is the first club adviser. For their first project, club members decided to clean up graffiti in Soquel.
At a dinner meeting Oct. 14, Supervisor Mark Stone spoke to the group about his successful English Channel swim.
There will be no dinner meetings in November, as club members will be planning for the Holiday Tree Lighting Festival, the Big Brothers-Big Sisters Christmas party and the Kiwanis Christmas Breakfast, all in early December.
Kiwanis meets at 7 a.m. Wednesdays at Heavenly Café, 1270 Mt. Hermon Road. Breakfast is $5. To participate in these and other activities, attend a meeting.

Rotary Club of Scotts Valley
The club hosted one of its biggest fundraisers, Oktoberfest, on Oct. 16 at the Scotts Valley Sports Center. Veterans and active-duty military personnel were honored, including Jack Nunneley, who was named Rotarian of the Year for his 30 years of service in the U.S. Navy.
The club donated $2,400 in ticket sales to the Scotts Valley Education Foundation. It also raised $10,000 to fund its local and international projects.
New club member Mark Rosenberg was welcomed in October. The club has 45 members, and membership has grown 15 percent since July.
Upcoming club meetings include a talk by Pat O’Connell on Nov. 9 about identity theft in the workplace, a historical discussion with Brian Liddicoat on Nov. 16 about the old Pacific Coast Railroad, and an update by Cindy Fitzgerald on Nov. 23 about the club’s international projects.
The club meets from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Mondays at the Scotts Valley Hilton. Lunch is served at 12:15 p.m. and costs $16.
