MCR looks for volunteers

Mountain Community Resources is looking for volunteers to phone its local supporters as part of its annual phoneathon fundraiser.

The family resource center provides volunteers with dinner, training and a chance to win prizes in return for helping support its activities. The phoneathon is from 5 to 8 p.m. every weeknight in February at MCR headquarters, 6134 Highway 9, in Felton.

Grants available for artists

The Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County is offering about $35,000 in grants to fund well-planned, short-term art and cultural projects that respond to and serve the cultural needs and interests of Santa Cruz County.

The grants, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, can pay for plays, concerts, dance shows, exhibits, poetry readings and more. Projects must be completed between July 1, 2010, and June 30, 2011. The deadline to apply is March 8.
