Women’s soccer

The Bethany University women’s soccer team began California Pacific Conference play with a 2-0 win over Mills College, with goals from Justine Wilson and Faith Hall.

“Things are really coming together,” senior Amanda Anderson said. “We played our game and totally dominated the field.”

Their next game, however — against Holy Names on Tuesday — was a harsh 7-0 loss.

The Bruins will next play against Menlo College in Atherton at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Men’s soccer

The men’s soccer team started conference play against Cal State Maritime with a 3-1 win Friday, Sept. 24.

On Tuesday, Sept. 28, they played Holy Names and fell 5-1 at Skypark. Their next conference game is an away match at Menlo on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Volleyball

Bethany Volleyball swept Mills College 3-0 in the teams’ first conference match Friday, Sept. 24. The team was less lucky against Holy Names the following day, when they fell 3-1.

“I think we played well overall,” senior Kim Fiegles said. “We have some things to work on, but we will beat Holy Names when we see them next time.”

Conference play continues against Menlo at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, in Atherton, and then a home matchup against Pacific Union College at 7 p.m. Saturday in Redwood Auditorium.

Cross country

The men and women’s cross country teams both attended the Westmont Invite on Sept. 25.

“The meet was unseasonably hot, on hard pavement, but the team worked hard and persevered,” women’s coach Sarah Meyer said.

The teams will race in the non-conference Vanguard Invitational next weekend, Oct 9.
