Coast Classic wrestling launches this weekend
The annual two-day Coast Classic wrestling tournament will take place this weekend at Scotts Valley High School. The two-day tournament opens Friday, Dec. 18, and continues Saturday, Dec. 19.
More than 40 schools from the West Coast will visit Scotts Valley for one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in Northern California.
Finals are Saturday afternoon in the gymnasium.
SV girls soccer shuts out two
The Scotts Valley girls soccer team improved to 3-2-1 on the season with two consecutive 1-0 wins in preseason play.
Freshman goalie Emily Johnson picked up both shutouts, and striker Emily Payne scored the winning goal in both games. The first win was Monday, Dec. 14, against San Benito High School, and the second was Tuesday, Dec. 16, over Gilroy High School.
Boys soccer looking for first win
The Scotts Valley boys soccer team is 0-2-2 after two consecutive 1-1 draws.
On Dec. 9, the Falcons tied Pioneer High School of San Jose, with Salvador Barrientos scoring for Scotts Valley in the first half.
Aaron Liang scored for the Falcons in the second tie, a 1-1 contest with Alvarez High School from Salinas on Saturday, Dec. 12.
