Ben Lomond’s Mountain Community Theater will be presenting the delightful holiday comedy “My Three Angels,” through Dec. 14 at Park Hall.
This comedic play centers around three convicts — or “angels” — who assist a family going through some issues during the holidays. Taking place on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, the classic tale resurfaces the historic theme of good triumphing over evil and has both an unusual and happy ending.
Rita Wadsworth, an actor playing the role of Madame Parole, has been with MCT for over 30 years and recommended the play to the theater’s play selection committee.
“We describe it as a warm-hearted holiday prison comedy,” Wadsworth explained.
Opening night was a success, with audience members bringing unexpected laughter to the show. One of the three angels, Jules, played by MCT Vice President Peter Gelblum, said he was surprised by the audience’s response to the show.
“Honestly, I expected some chuckles you know, but they were guffawing.”
The show’s director, Robin Aronson, connected with the script and felt that she could make it come alive. Like Gelblum, Aronson had no idea how the audience would receive the show.
“Shockingly wonderful, surprising delightful, I did not expect the response,” Aronson said of opening night.
Aronson loves the creative process, where something so small and unformed develops into a fully functioning performance. When the cast comes together and contributes to the play as a whole, there is a synergy that happens, she said.
“The actors really breathe life into their characters and connect so authentically.”
Another actor, Jackson Wolffe, is playing the angel known as Joseph and said he enjoys using his theatrical skills to make members of the audience laugh. He especially enjoys the camaraderie that the three angels share, which lends itself to hysterical interactions onstage.
“The interplay between the three of us is quite fun, and it’s just a delightful show,” Wolffe said. “I was pleased to get it finally in front of an audience.”
