Sixth-graders win championship
The San Lorenzo Valley Middle School six-grade boys basketball team won the league championship over Mission Hill Middle School on Jan. 7. The team, coached by Matt O-Brien, went undefeated for the season.
Baymonte boys win hoops tourney
The Baymonte Christian School boys basketball team won three games to capture the Holy Cross Invitational tournament last week.
They defeated Gateway School, 35-31, on Jan. 13; Kirby, 45-21, on Jan. 14; and Green Valley, 42-40, in the tournament final Jan. 15.
Holy Cross and Salesian also competed in the tournament. All proceeds were donated to a food pantry.
The Baymonte team is made up of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from the school and is coached by Steve Maliesky, Jim Danels and Art Danner.
The team is Willie Johnston, Ian Lemmon, Connor Maliesky, Jimmy Danels, Kirk Booth, Caleb Bassi, Shawn Anderson, Paul Erickson and Dawson Danner.
Pros on hand for baseball clinic
Professional baseball players Robbie Erlin of the Texas Rangers and Kevin Eichorn of the Arizona Diamondbacks will be on hand during a Little League and Pony League baseball tune-up clinic at Scotts Valley High on Feb. 6.
The clinic is a fundraiser for SVHS baseball. Falcons coach Buddy Carrigan and assistants Rick Erlin and Bob Stevens will lead the clinic.
Registration for the all-skills clinic opens Saturday, Jan. 23, at www.scotts
valleyhighbaseball.com and is limited to 150 players. The cost is $25 per player.
