Women’s basketball
The Bethany University women’s basketball team fell to nonconference rival U.C. Santa Cruz, 63-46, in a game Jan. 28.
The Bruins could not compete with UCSC’s towering 6-foot center, Molly Davisson, who scored 26 points and had her way in the paint. No player who took the court for Bethany was taller than 5 feet, 9 inches.
The result was UCSC dominating the boards, out-rebounding the smaller Bruins 40-23.
A bright spot for Bethany was sophomore Rachel Estabrook, who led the Bruins with 12 points while shooting 5-for-10 from the field and grabbing six rebounds.
Janessa McGirt, who had four steals, was the only other Bruin in double figures with 10 points.
Bethany (0-7 California Pacific Conference) resumed conference play with a 66-45 loss to the California Maritime Academy. They played against Holy Names University after press time Thursday, Feb. 4, and will host Pacific Union College at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 11.
