Torunn Cecelia Sweers, a senior at San Lorenzo Valley High School, has won the countywide Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen contest — including a $500 scholarship and entry into the next level of competition.
Julia Kernan of Scotts Valley High School was honored as a Good Citizen by her high school and received a certificate commemorating the achievement.
Entrants submitted transcripts, letters of recommendation and a list of achievements and wrote a proctored essay.
Winners of the regional competition will be announced Feb. 27.
Kearney makes dean’s list
Scotts Valley’s Kevin Kearney, a sophomore studying business at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester. He is a 2008 Scotts Valley High School graduate.
Students must have a 3.7 grade-point average or better to qualify for the dean’s list.
Gerdt reappointed to library board
Felton resident Nancy Gerdt was reappointed Jan. 11 to a four-year term on the Santa Cruz County Library Joint Powers Authority Board.
Gerdt is a member of the Felton Library Friends and will serve her second term on the board.
