EDITOR,
Thank you, Peter Burke, for the article on your grandmother, “Baba” (Editor’s Notebook, Page 24, Jan. 29). We can all give thanks that during a recent storm, she survived a redwood tree that almost fell on her. She is, in the true sense of the word, a survivor.
I have had the pleasure to know your dear grandmother, who lives right next door to my in-laws. It’s been an honor to get to know her over these past eight years. She is indeed an incredible woman.
You mentioned her age first, so I guess I can, too. At age 90, she has been an outstanding example to me of someone who continues living and giving. Delivering Meals On Wheels at her age is just one example of the spirit of this woman. I hope that I will be blessed to live to her age and still be a service to others. What an inspiration she is to me and to those who know her.
We, in this great community of ours, are blessed to have a number of citizens age 90 and older. It would be wonderful if your paper could, on occasion, profile the lives of these incredible people. They have an abundance of experience, inspiration and wisdom from which we could all benefit.
