Behind star center Sierra Clark’s 28 points and 23 rebounds, the San Lorenzo Valley girls basketball team (12-14) won its first-round Division IV Central Coast Section playoff game, 57-38, on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The 10th-seeded Cougars played after press time Thursday, Feb. 23, at No. 7 seed Santa Catalina High, with a chance to move on to the quarterfinals of the section tournament.
Santa Catalina beat the Cougars 49-42 on Dec. 29 at the Seaside Sweet 16 tournament.
It was the first playoff win for the Cougars girls since the 2008 season, when they won their first two games before a loss to powerhouse Valley Christian in the quarterfinals.
In the game, Clark, a 6-foot, 1-inch center, was the dominant player, standing several inches above everyone else on the court. She grabbed 11 offensive rebounds as part of her double-double.
