San Lorenzo Valley High teammates Cody Rodebaugh, a senior, and Logan Kellogg, a junior, are both Central Coast Section champions after strong performances over the weekend.
Rodebaugh, who attends Coast Redwood High and wrestles for the Cougars, pinned Ian Messaros from Cupertino in four minutes, 55 seconds to win his second consecutive CCS championship.
The senior easily defeated Ryan Gasvoda of Los Gatos, Adam Rosso from Gilroy and Jonathan Gonzalez from Santa Teresa before pinning Messaros on Feb. 19 at Independence High School in San Jose.
Kellogg, the No. 2 seed heading into the tournament, defeated Josaiah Pulealii of Palma, Nick Castillo of Salinas, Sukhraj Sohal of Los Gatos, Josh Castillo of Watsonville and top-seeded Ismael Sanchez of Silver Creek in the final to claim his first CCS championship.
The pair will travel to the California State Wrestling Tournament on March 5 and 6 at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.
Freshman Michael Kraft (103 pounds) pinned his first-round opponent, Nick Busby of Palma, in five minutes and then pinned his second opponent, Kevin Ott of Archbishop Mitty, in 27 seconds before succumbing to eventual third-place finisher Nam Nguyen of Overfelt in the third round. Kraft went 4-2 for the tournament.
Freshman Patrick Doran (112) beat his first opponent, Cameron Petersen of Saint Francis, in a 10-8 decision before falling in his next two bouts and finishing 1-2.
Junior Daniel Kraft, a two-time CCS qualifier, lost to Joey Christophers of Palo Alto and finished 0-2.
Scotts Valley
Scotts Valley’s David Nice (152) was pinned by Victor Nguyen from Westmont in the first round and finished the tournament 2-2 after winning two matches.
Falcons senior Alex Salisbury (171) fell in the first round to Juan Pina of Pacific Grove and finished the tournament 0-2.
Freshman Grant Margerum fell to Carmel’s Joe Kochevar in the first round and finished the tournament 1-2.
