SV girls soccer survives playoff shootout
The Scotts Valley girls soccer team defeated Saratoga High on penalty kicks to advance to the semifinals of the Central Coast Section playoffs Saturday, Feb. 27.
The game ended in a tie in regulation, and the Falcons won the resulting penalty kick shootout 5-4 on shots by Jordin Carlson, Brittany Kuo, Amy McDowell, Madison Black and goalkeeper Emily Johnson.
The Falcons moved on to play Sacred Heart Prep at 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Valley Christian High School in San Jose. A win would put the team into the final at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Valley Christian.
Swimming lessons start in Scotts Valley
Swim classes taught by longtime aquatics coordinator Heidi Sussman are set to begin at Siltanen Family Swim Center in Scotts Valley.
Lessons will begin March 23 and will be taught in three-week sessions, which meet two days each week, either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays, for 30 minutes.
Classes will be from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m., and private instruction is also available.
Group parent-baby lessons are available for children 6 months to 3 years old.
There are also several openings for swim instructors and lifeguards that pay between $14.50 and $16.41 per hour.

SV eighth-graders finish volleyball season undefeated
The Scotts Valley Middle School eighth-grade girls volleyball team beat Notre Dame’s eighth-grade team this past week by game scores of 25-15 and 25-19 to complete an undefeated league season. 
SVMS won the sixth- and seventh-grade county championships in previous years, making this a three-peat for the team. 
Team members are Carley Arana, Meredith Barton, Samantha Braverman, Mikayla Fish, Hannah Freeman, Claire Gregory, Lena Gustafsson, Tori Hertz, Meghan Ignatowicz, Nicole LaPorte, Darby McFall, Synclaire Reyes, Katherine Stewart and Seryna Tapuloa. 
The team is coached by Renae Fish and Gary Fish Redenbacher.
