SLV baseball falls in thriller
The San Lorenzo Valley High boys baseball team fell to Aptos High, 8-7, on Tuesday, March 16, after a five-run seventh inning by the Cougars knotted the game at 7.
In the rally, Robert Mullins hit a two-run homer.
Aptos loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning, and a single drove home the winning run.
SLV drops to 0-1 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.

Falcons swim against St. Francis
The Scotts Valley High boys swim team tied St. Francis High, 48-48, on March 12.
Key times included Kyle Danna’s win in the 200-yard freestyle in two minutes, 24.58 seconds, and Tommy D’Andrea’s win in the 100 free in 1:01.56.
The Falcons won the 200 medley relay (Victor Leleu, Adam Bell, D’Andrea and Danna) in 2:12.05 and the 200 free relay (with the same foursome) in 1:56.42.
It was the first meet of the season for the Falcons, who are now 0-0-1.
The Scotts Valley girls beat St Francis 89-17, winning 10 of 11 events. St. Francis fields only two girls swimmers but recorded a win in the 50 freestyle.
Scotts Valley won all three relays: Savannah Wohlstattar, Aria Leonard, Elizabeth Von Hanaulter and Camille Huxtable finished the 200 medley relay in 2:12.48; Tatiana Gonzales, Marissa Happee, Von Hanaulter and Anna Danielson completed the 200 free relay in 2:03.05; and Wohlstattar, Leonard, Huxtable and Von Hanaulter swam the 400 free relay in 4:25.14.
The Falcon girls are 1-0.
Cougar runners finish strong in New York
Five San Lorenzo Valley High boys who ran in the track and field indoor national championships in New York last weekend finished their indoor season on a high note.
A distance medley relay team of freshman Cody Johnson and seniors Matt Shisler, Alejandro Torres and Allan Hetke finished 10th in 10 minutes, 46.03 seconds.
A relay team that swapped Johnson for senior Ben Swan took 16th in the 4-by-800-meter relay in 8:07.73.
Hetke ran a personal record in the mile, a time of 4:27.58, and Johnson ran a personal-record mile of 4:41.07.
The team will now focus on the outdoor season, coach Rob Collins said.
D.A.R.E. golf tournament scheduled
The Scotts Valley Peace Officer’s Association will host its 13th annual D.A.R.E. golf tournament fundraiser in May. The tournament is scheduled for May 14 at Valley Gardens Golf Course, 263 Mount Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley, with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
The cost is $60 per player for golf, lunch and drink tickets, and proceeds will help pay for Drug Abuse Resistance Education taught by the Scotts Valley Police Department at local schools.
