The Globe of Death. Tightrope walkers. Coconut the Clown.
Three things that can only mean one thing — the circus is coming to town.
For the third year in a row, the American Crown Circus will set up its tents in Skypark in Scotts Valley from May 18 through 20.
The circus will serve as a fundraiser for the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s more of an acrobatic circus,” said Sharolynn Ullestad, executive director of the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce. “The only animal featured is a miniature horse named Bronco. He’s tiny.”
The circus will feature the Globe of Death, an enclosed sphere in which motorcyclists perform daring tricks, along with comical clowns, tightrope walkers, jugglers and trapeze acts.
“One of my favorites is the gal with the hula hoops,” Ullestad said, noting that the show is a bit different each year.
“It’s a small family circus. It’s great for kids and for adults to be a kid again,” she said. “It’s a hard and stressful world out there, and a fun way to deal with it is to come and laugh with a clown.”
